Brisbane Valley Arts Council

Newsletter – March 2009

President/Newsletter – Andrea Oxenford
Vice-President – Sharon Cowley
Secretary – Lynn Dickson
Treasurer – Jan Butler
Committee Members – Janet O’Connor and Libby Zernike
Somerset Regional Council Representative – Noel Kammholz

A slightly belated Welcome to 2009!!

Apologies for the lateness of this first newsletter.

A crashed hard drive has meant that I have lost all member contact information including addresses and emails. (not mentioning my entire Arts Council life!!! Ahhhhh!)

Fortunately, Queensland Arts Council keep an updated list of members and addresses. Unfortunately, they don’t keep records of email addresses.

I would therefore be VERY appreciative if those members with email addresses could email me at anabranch@dodo.com.au so I don’t have to address 50 envelopes again next month!!

Your email address will be treated confidentially and will not be passed on to any third party.

Thankyou!

2008 AGM Update

The 2008 AGM was held last December at Sticky Fingers Restaurant, Esk, followed immediately by the Christmas Party!!

The new committee members are listed at the top of this newsletter.

Thankyou to outgoing Treasurer Hetty van Boven and

Committee Member Susan Cory for their hard work and dedication over the years.

Welcome to Jan Butler and Libby Zernike.

We look forward to your input and enthusiasm throughout the year.

What’s happening in 2009??

A-Z-of-Cabaret.jpg

This year we are fortunate to be hosting TWO Queensland Arts Council tours – The A to Z of Cabaret on Saturday June 13, and Gods of Spicy Things: a divine comedy on Thursday 10 September.

Both productions will be at the Esk Lyceum Hall with generous ticket discounts for members!! Stay tuned for more information as the dates draw closer.

The annual Colour Exhibition by schools of the Somerset Region will again be displayed in September/October.

The BV Arts Council website has been replaced with a webpage on the Queensland Arts Council website. Hopefully this will be up and running soon. Look for more information in next month’s newsletter.

BV Arts Council leading the way in Connecting Local Artists!

Our region is fortunate to have a large number of practicing and enthusiastic artists covering a vast range of media. We know that many artists are keen to know what other artists are up to, as well as wanting to share information about their own projects.

With this in mind, BV Arts Council has an exciting new initiative.  A blog that will allow local artists to showcase their talents, and keep in touch with other local artists.

connectinglocalartists.blogspot.com is a new blog administered by BV Arts Council. Check it out!

We currently have only 2 artists on the blog but it will give you an idea of what is possible.

If you would like to be included on the blog, you need to:

Email up to 3 digital images of your artwork, including title and medium, to connectinglocalartists@gmail.com

Include a short biography, and the following statement

“I, (name), give BV Arts Council permission to publish the following images on connectinglocalartists.blogspot.com”

If you don’t have access to email, please post the information listed above to

BV Arts Council Inc.
PO Box 1,
Esk . 4312.

If you would like your photographs returned, please include a stamped self addressed envelope
